Residents of 'Gedhoruveriya' Flats Raise Concerns Over Exorbitant Water Bills

Politics ·
Residents of the Amaan Udhares towers in Hulhumale’ Phase II, part of the 'Gedhoruveriya' social housing scheme, have expressed alarm over unusually high water bills. Some tenants, who moved into the towers in November, report being charged over MVR 7,000 for water usage. Male’ Water and Sewerage Services (MWSC) Managing Director Abdul Matheen confirmed that while no official complaints have been lodged, the issue is under investigation. Matheen suggested that the high bills could be due to wiring issues and emphasized the importance of checking for such problems. The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), responsible for developing the flats, has yet to comment. Residents have taken to social media to voice their concerns, highlighting the financial strain caused by the inflated utility costs.
