Rising Air Pollution in Male Sparks Health Concerns and Calls for Action
Health ·
Male City has recently been grappling with severe air pollution, prompting concerns over public health and calls for immediate action from authorities. This year, the air quality in Male and several other regions of the Maldives has significantly deteriorated, raising alarms among residents and health experts. While the issue is partly attributed to climatic factors, experts warn that the prevailing air pollution could lead to a range of health problems, particularly for vulnerable groups. The Environment Ministry has linked the hazardous air quality to international weather patterns, including dust storms from India and the Arabian Peninsula. In response, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued guidelines urging the public to take precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and minimizing outdoor activities, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Authorities have also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness indoors and using air purifiers to mitigate the effects of pollution. Residents are advised to seek medical attention if they experience prolonged respiratory issues or other health complications due to the poor air quality.
