RTI Reveals RDC Completed Only 21 Out of 81 Projects Amid Mounting Losses and Delays

Politics ·
The Road Development Corporation (RDC), a state-owned company grappling with consistent financial losses, has completed just 21 of the 81 projects awarded to it over the past five years, leaving dozens of initiatives unfinished since the end of 2019. This information was obtained by Sun under the Right to Information (RTI) Act following a request submitted on May 20 last year. Despite the request seeking detailed project updates, the data was only provided six months past the legal deadline. RDC claimed that project details are available on its website, but the latest visible update dates back to September 2023. According to the shared data, 60 projects remain in progress, with only 21 completed. RDC, which has been awarded projects outside its core function, such as constructing police stations and hospitals, recorded a loss of MVR 113.73 million in Q1 2023 alone. This has fueled public concerns about corruption and accountability in state-owned enterprises.
