Two individuals have applied for the vacant position of Supreme Court judge following the impending retirement of Judge Ali Rashid next month. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) deadline for applications expired this morning, and while the details have not been officially announced, sources have confirmed that former High Court judge Ali Samira and current High Court judge Abdur Raouf Ibrahim have submitted their applications. Ali Samira previously served as a High Court judge and most recently held the post of Deputy Prosecutor General. Judge Abdur Raouf also has extensive experience in the High Court, having been reappointed to the court last February after many years of service. This marks the fifth change to the seven-judge Supreme Court bench in recent times, following previous appointments necessitated by removals, resignations, and the retirement of the Chief Justice.
