Saudi Arabia Funds Global Pilgrims' Hajj Trip to Promote Muslim Unity
Politics ·
Saudi Arabia has launched its annual Hajj Umrah Visitation Programme, a comprehensive initiative designed to facilitate the sacred pilgrimage for Muslims worldwide by removing financial barriers. Personally inaugurated by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the program covers all costs for selected participants, including international travel, accommodation, and daily necessities.
Operating under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Da'wah and Guidance, the program has evolved since its 1997 inception into a significant humanitarian effort. For the current season, participants are hosted at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Makkah, where they receive full boarding and access to multilingual administrative support, including translation services and communication assistance to help navigate the complexities of the pilgrimage.
To ensure the spiritual focus of the worshippers remains uninterrupted, the Saudi government has implemented 24-hour transportation services providing direct access to Masjid al-Haram. This is complemented by a round-the-clock medical infrastructure, with specialized teams and ambulance services stationed to safeguard the health of the diverse international crowd.
Beyond the core religious rituals, the program incorporates educational tours into Islamic heritage. Pilgrims are given rare access to the factory that produces the Kiswa—the precious cloth covering the Kaaba—and visits to historically significant sites, including the Quba Mosque in Medina, the first mosque in Islamic history.
Participants speaking with PSM News expressed profound gratitude, with one pilgrim from Pakistan describing the experience as the most spiritual journey of his life, citing the Kingdom's hospitality as a key factor in his ability to focus on worship.
As Makkah reaches full capacity with millions of visitors, the Saudi government has deployed extensive security protocols. Large numbers of police personnel are managing traffic and crowd flow to ensure the safety and orderly movement of the global gathering during this peak period of religious activity.
