Saudi Arabia's Flynas to Launch Flights to Maldives Starting May 3

Saudi Arabia’s largest low-cost carrier, Flynas, will begin flight operations to the Maldives on May 3, marking a strategic expansion of air connectivity to the archipelago. The announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, during a press conference at the President’s Office. The arrival of Flynas comes as part of a government effort to diversify the tourism market and mitigate the impact of geopolitical instability. Minister Ameen explained that ongoing conflict in the Middle East had previously led several airlines to temporarily suspend their services to the Maldives, resulting in the cancellation of approximately 18 to 19 flights. Despite these challenges, the aviation sector is seeing a strong recovery. Major carriers including Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways have now resumed their scheduled services, while Flydubai and Air Arabia have also restarted operations. The Minister noted that while the Middle East conflict has affected multiple nations globally, the Maldives has remained resilient, experiencing an overall increase in both tourism arrivals and the number of operating airlines. Beyond the addition of Flynas, other carriers are expanding their reach. Aeroflot and Turkish Airlines have increased their flight frequencies to accommodate growing demand. Additionally, the airline Beond is scheduled to launch its charter program in August, further diversifying the options available to travelers. Currently, the Maldives' air network is heavily supported by the Asian region, with 16 Asian airlines operating flights to the country. This is followed by 13 European carriers and six airlines from the Middle East. The addition of Flynas from Riyadh is expected to strengthen the link between the Saudi market and the Maldivian tourism industry, offering more affordable options for travelers from the Gulf region.
