Sentencing Postponed for Former Fenaka Procurement Head Mariyam Deena Due to Hospitalization
Local News ·
The sentencing hearing for Mariyam Deena, the former Procurement Head of Fenaka Corporation who was convicted of corruption, has been postponed after she was admitted to the hospital. The hearing was scheduled for today at 10:00 AM but was cancelled after the corrections department informed the court that Deena could not be produced due to her medical treatment.
Deena was found guilty on December 12 of this month by the Criminal Court for using her official position for undue gain in a case involving a 2019 agreement with Blazen Inc. The court determined that she approved payments without verifying that the company had completed the work. The basic sentence for the offense is one year, seven months, and six days in prison. Following the conviction, the judge ordered Deena to be remanded in custody pending sentencing.
Deena broke down in tears when the verdict was announced. Her medical issues have already caused significant delays in the trial. Separately, another case against Deena is ongoing in the Criminal Court regarding the installation of CCTV and video conference systems at Fenaka branches in 2018 under a contract awarded to Kairatesoo Pvt Ltd.
