Shahid Steps Down as President of the UN General Assembly

Abdulla Shahid, the former Foreign Minister of Maldives, has stepped down from his role as the President of the United Nations General Assembly. Shahid, who held the position during the 76th session, handed over the presidency to his successor in Doha, Qatar. His tenure, which began in September 2021, concluded in September 2022. During his leadership, Shahid emphasized global cooperation and multilateralism, focusing on issues such as climate change, sustainable development, and international peace. The newly elected President of the UN General Assembly is Qatar’s Nasir Abdulaziz Al-Nasir. The transition marks the end of Shahid’s significant contributions to the global diplomatic stage.
