Sheikh Imran Claims 2028 Government Will Cancel Eagle Hills Agreement Without Compensation
Politics ·
Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that the agreement with Eagle Hills for the development of the Rasmalé project will be cancelled by a new government formed in 2028, without any compensation. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Sheikh Imran made serious allegations of corruption regarding the project and said that the company would be informed that no compensation would be provided if the agreement is cancelled.
Sheikh Imran stated that the government is facing significant pressure as a citizen-led movement against the permanent handover of most of Malé to Eagle Hills expands. He claimed that due to this matter, signing processes have been delayed and obstacles are arising, and he received information that matters have reached a point where the Eagle Hills company itself needs to think further.
Sheikh Imran suspected that the biggest obstacle preventing the government from backing down on this matter is the lack of a way to return the money allegedly entrusted to 'Brother Abdullah'. He said that those individuals themselves will decide whether to pay that money by selling some people's houses or through some other means, and also stated that the Maldivian people will not let go of this matter.
Furthermore, Sheikh Imran stated that consultations have been conducted through national movements with individuals who have the opportunity to come to power in 2028, and he gave assurance that this agreement would be cancelled by the next government. 'If God willing, we will inform Eagle Hills about this. Even though it was signed, no compensation can be given,' he said.
Sheikh Imran stated that consultations are ongoing with all political leaders of Maldives and speaking citizens to ensure these matters, and that work will be successful along this path.
