SIWEC to Develop Sports Infrastructure Across Nine Regions in Maldives

The Maldives National Defence Force's Welfare Company, known as SIWEC, has partnered with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation to develop sports infrastructure in nine regions across the Maldives. The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Mohamed Dilshan Abdulla, and SIWEC Managing Director Colonel Ahmed Zubair. The projects include replacing the turf for Fenfushi Futsal pitch in Alif Dhaalu Atoll, constructing a handball court in Omadhoo, building futsal grounds in Kamadhoo and Fulidhoo, and creating a multi-purpose volleyball court and futsal pitch in Dharanboodhoo. Additional projects include fence repairs in Kanduhulhudhoo, a swimming track in Dhihdhoo, a football ground in Makunudhoo and Veyvah, and a lighting system for the football ground in Nehlaidhoo. Nine more projects are planned for Noonu Atoll, including multi-purpose grounds for handball and futsal, outdoor volleyball courts, and fixed lighting systems for football grounds. The government continues to prioritize the development of the Maldives’ sports sector, with numerous initiatives underway to enhance sports infrastructure.
