Solih Criticizes Muizzu Government for Lack of Commitment to Decentralization

Politics ·
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration of failing to support the country’s decentralization system. Speaking in an interview with RaajjeMV after casting his vote in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s primary for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, Solih stated that the current government is not aligned with the principles of decentralization. He emphasized that the Muizzu administration is unable to govern through the delegation of power and authority, instead consolidating authority at the center. Solih called on the MDP to reinforce the decentralized system and restore power to the people. He also praised the MDP primary as the most free and fair election held so far, describing it as an important milestone for democracy. Solih expressed hope that unsuccessful candidates would remain resilient and united with the party after the election.
