Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has departed for Arusha, Tanzania, to represent the Maldives at the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The high-level international gathering is scheduled to take place from October 5 to 9. During the assembly, Speaker Abdulla will address the General Debate, focusing on this year's central theme: “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all.” The discourse is expected to highlight the role of legislative bodies in fostering transparent governance and creating equitable opportunities for citizens globally. The Maldivian delegation comprises a diverse group of lawmakers and senior officials, signaling the parliament's commitment to international diplomatic engagement. Joining the Speaker are Parliamentarians Mohamed Shahid (Hulhudhoo), Ibrahim Shujau (Baarshu), Asma Rasheed (Central Maafannu), Dr. Anara Naeem (Huraa), Fathimath Sauda (Nilandhoo), Mohamed Ali (Gadhdhoo), and Hussain Sameer (Thoddoo). Providing technical and diplomatic support to the legislative team are Counsel General Fathimath Filza, Chief of Bureau Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, and Assistant Director General of the Foreign Relations Department Zuyyina Badhree. The assembly serves as a critical platform for the Maldives to align its legislative goals with global standards of governance and to strengthen ties with other member parliaments.
