Speaker Confident 20th Parliament Will Build on 60 Bills Passed This Year

Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has expressed confidence that the 20th Parliament will achieve even greater legislative success in the coming year. The announcement came as the Parliament concluded its third and final session of 2024, entering recess on Wednesday.
Speaking exclusively to PSM News, Speaker Abdul Raheem revealed that 82 bills were introduced to Parliament this year, with work completed on 60 pieces of legislation. The legislative focus has centered on passing laws that ensure smoother and more efficient government operations across the Maldives.
The Speaker emphasized that Parliament prioritizes critical bills to prevent disruptions in government service delivery. "We do not go on recess until pending critical work is completed," he stated, noting that extraordinary sessions are sometimes convened to ensure essential legislation passes.
Abdul Raheem expressed satisfaction with the Parliament's performance throughout 2024, highlighting that the current legislative body successfully completed work inherited from the previous Parliament. Looking ahead, he confirmed the 20th Parliament will maintain its focus on key legislative priorities to advance the government's agenda in the new year.
