Mohamed Tholal, the Commissioner of Sports, has emphasised that the confidence expressed by national sports associations in the commission’s services marks its most significant achievement. Tholal reiterated that the commission’s primary role is to facilitate the operations of sports bodies, and the trust placed in its services serves as the ultimate measure of success. He cited recent amendments to the Maldives Sports Act as evidence of progress, noting that these changes have expanded opportunities and increased allowances for athletes, coaches, and officials. Tholal also highlighted the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation’s confirmation that health insurance for athletes will be included in the upcoming national budget, calling it a critical development. Additionally, he praised the formalisation of the 'Arutha' scholarship programme, describing it as a major milestone for the sports sector. Reflecting on his tenure, Tholal noted operational reforms introduced to align with the administration’s focus on sports, driven by consultations with national associations. He pledged to maintain close collaborations to ensure sustained progress.
