Sri Lanka has resumed Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) training for officers of the Maldives Police Service after a 13-year break, according to a statement from the High Commission of Sri Lanka in the Maldives. The eight-week program, which began last Monday and will run until December 31, involves 36 police officers and is conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Sri Lanka Police. The training aims to enhance the skills, operational capabilities, and law enforcement knowledge of the participants, providing them with important information and practical skills to strengthen their operational readiness. The High Commission highlighted that the program reflects the long-standing goodwill between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, particularly their close ties in enhancing security sector capabilities. A special ceremony was held in Malé on the 29th of last month to mark the departure of the officers, attended by Sri Lankan High Commissioner Muhammad Rizwaan Hassan, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohammed, Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikree, and senior officers of the Maldives Police Service.
