Economy ·
The Maldives state has spent MVR 219.7 million on travel as of this year, according to detailed figures from the Ministry of Finance. The amount accounts for 80 percent of the MVR 273.6 million allocated for travel in the state's record MVR 64 billion budget for this year. The figures released by the Ministry of Finance are current up to the 29th of last month. During the same period last year, the state had spent MVR 226.7 million on travel, making this year's expenditure three percent lower. However, large amounts have been spent beyond the budget for travel in previous years. The government had previously begun disclosing the expenses incurred during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's overseas trips through the President's Office, but some time has passed since those details were made public.
