STELCO has officially taken over the electricity, water and sewerage services of Thinadhoo City in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
A special flag-raising ceremony was held in the city today to mark the formal commencement of the services. The national flag was raised by STELCO Managing Director Dr. Ali Azuwar, while the company's flag was raised by Deputy Managing Director Abdullah Nazir.
Speaking after the ceremony, Dr. Ali Azuwar said that under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's firm vision to take the country's utility services to a new level, the transfer of FENAKA's services to STELCO is a significant improvement for Thinadhoo City. He extended special thanks to the President for the move.
During the visit, the Managing Director and senior STELCO officials met with employees working in the city, urging all parties to carry out their roles with responsibility in maintaining the engines and all facilities in place to provide utility services.
The government has decided to dissolve FENAKA and transfer its services to STELCO in order to reduce state expenditure and run services under a lean system.
As part of this effort, STELCO has now officially taken over operations in islands that had been receiving basic services, including electricity, under FENAKA. The company has so far taken over services in the islands of Haa Alif Atoll, as well as the electricity services of Addu City and Fuvahmulah City.
