State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) is focusing on enhancing utility service quality and strengthening internal management as it expands its operations across the Maldives. Managing Director Dr. Ali Azwar announced that these objectives are central to the company's current strategy as it takes over utility services in several key regions. Speaking at the inauguration of a comprehensive training programme, Dr. Azwar highlighted STELCO's expansion into Baa Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll, Meemu Atoll, and Huraa in Kaafu Atoll. To ensure a seamless transition and reliable energy delivery, the company has deployed dedicated internal survey teams to assess local infrastructure and needs. Dr. Azwar attributed the expansion to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to providing high-standard utility services nationwide. He noted that improving service quality in the islands while simultaneously reducing operational expenditure and increasing efficiency represents a significant milestone for national development. Reflecting on STELCO’s 75-year history, the Managing Director emphasised that the company's reputation is built on decades of employee dedication. He urged newly appointed station managers to uphold these professional standards and foster strong, collaborative relationships with the local communities they serve. To support this growth, STELCO conducted an intensive training programme from September 20 to 22. The initiative was designed to equip station managers and interim powerhouse heads with the essential skills required to lead island powerhouses with reliability and strict adherence to corporate regulations. The curriculum covered critical areas including administrative, technical, financial, and safety management. By focusing on these pillars, STELCO aims to empower local managers to resolve workplace challenges efficiently and improve cross-departmental communication, ensuring that the islands receive stable and sustainable electricity services.
