STELCO Takes Over Electricity and Water Services Across Eight Maldivian Islands
World ·
State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has officially assumed control of essential utility services across eight islands, following a strategic transfer of operations from Fenaka Corporation Limited.
The agreement, signed by Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Afeef Hussain and STELCO Managing Director Dr. Ali Azwar, transfers the responsibility for electricity, water, and sewerage services. The handover affects the islands of Muli, Dhiggaru, Kolhufushi, Maduvvari, Mulah, Naalaafushi, Raiymandhoo, and Veyvah.
This operational shift is a key component of broader utility reforms spearheaded by the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The government aims to streamline the delivery of basic services and elevate the quality of infrastructure and maintenance for residents in the outer atolls.
This latest agreement expands STELCO's footprint beyond the capital, following a similar transition in April when Fenaka handed over utility services in three other atolls to the state electricity provider. By consolidating these services, the government seeks to create a more efficient framework for managing the archipelago's energy and water needs, ensuring more reliable access for island communities.
