Stoking hatred against MPs is dangerous, says Deputy Speaker Nazim; recalls killing of a member

Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis Ahmed Nazim has warned that efforts to stir anger and hatred between the public and Members of Parliament, without regard for facts, are dangerous — noting that an MP had previously been killed as a result.
Speaking during a parliamentary debate on a public petition calling for the removal of the costly health insurance provided to MPs but not to ordinary citizens, Nazim, who represents the Dhiggur constituency, said the matter must be discussed by speaking the truth, even though neither side could be considered safe.
He said the allowances given to MPs were not exclusive to parliamentarians, pointing out that under Article 102 of the Constitution, the salaries and allowances of the President, Vice President, ministers, MPs, judges and heads of independent institutions are all determined by Parliament.
Nazim said using the petition to portray MPs as receiving huge benefits and to create discord was dangerous. He warned that whenever someone seeks popularity, attacking the people affected by an issue was very dangerous, and that such actions could put MPs at risk. He added that one of the Majlis' honourable members had already been killed.
He also noted that the current retirement arrangements for MPs were not in the best shape.
