A person suffering from a stroke arrives at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment every 16 hours, the hospital has revealed. In a video released by IGMH on social media to provide information related to events held in connection with World Stroke Day, Dr. Salman Nizam, a neurologist specializing in neurological diseases at the hospital, highlighted this fact. "Every 16 hours, a person suffering from a stroke arrives at IGMH," Dr. Salman Nizam said. However, he did not provide further details regarding this matter. According to information provided by IGMH, while a stroke can happen to anyone, recognizing its symptoms and taking immediate action without delay can save lives. In connection with this year's World Stroke Day, IGMH has arranged an event this evening aimed at raising public awareness about this disease and conducting screenings. The event will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Artificial Beach. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts. As a result, oxygen and food reaching the brain cells are obstructed, making permanent brain damage or life-threatening consequences likely. The main types of strokes include "ischemic stroke," the most common type, which occurs when a blood clot forms and blocks a blood vessel circulating blood to the brain, and "hemorrhagic stroke," which occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts and bleeds. Additionally, a "transient ischemic attack" (TIA), described as a minor stroke, is a temporary appearance of stroke symptoms and serves as a warning that a stroke may occur later. To identify the symptoms of this disease, attention should be paid to sudden drooping of one side of the face, weakness or paralysis in one arm, and difficulty or slurring in speech. Sudden changes in vision, severe headache, dizziness, and difficulty walking are also symptoms that may appear. Health professionals emphasize that it is important to keep blood pressure stable, control diabetes and cholesterol, exercise regularly, consume nutritious food, and stay away from tobacco use to reduce the risk of having a stroke. Seeking medical treatment immediately when symptoms appear can prevent long-term disability. Even if the visible symptoms temporarily disappear, it is essential to consult a doctor without delay.
