Food prices, including sugar and coffee, have continued to rise in the Maldivian capital of Malé in November compared to the same period last year, according to the latest Essential Commodities Price Index (ECPI) released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics. While month-on-month inflation on essential commodities declined by 0.69%, year-on-year inflation increased by 0.73%. Beverage prices rose by 0.55% month-on-month and 2.91% year-on-year, while personal care products saw a 0.54% monthly increase and a 3.33% annual rise. Products like sugar, jam, chocolate, and confectionery experienced significant price hikes, with coffee prices increasing by 8.97% compared to last year. The ECPI tracks 96 essential commodities, including food, beverages, fuel, and personal care items.
