The Supreme Court of the Maldives has upheld the death sentence handed down to Hassan Fareed for the murder of Meco Abdullah Shaheed, which took place during a brawl on the island of Fulhadhoo in January 2010. Fareed, a resident of Fulhadhoo, was previously convicted and sentenced to death by the Criminal Court and the High Court. He appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, which was heard by a five-judge bench. The bench ruled that there were no grounds to alter the death penalty imposed on him. The case was heard by Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, along with Judges Hussain Shahid, Aisha Shujun Mohamed, Ali Rashid Hussain, and Mohamed Salim.
