Furthermore, highlighting the importance and support provided by the Government of India to this project, the minister has also expressed gratitude to that country's government. With 100 million dollars in grant aid from the Government of India and 400 million dollars in line of credit assistance from EXIM Bank, totaling 500 million US dollars spent on this project, the work on this project was significantly accelerated after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office. With strong measures taken by the government to speed up the pace of work, most of the bridge is now nearing completion. Upon completion of this large project spanning a total length of 6.7 kilometers, the residents of Vilimalé who have relied on ferries for years will gain a permanent and convenient solution for travel. Specifically, opportunities will be created for easy land travel during emergencies and adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, connecting Malé, Vilimalé, the developing commercial port of Gulhifalhu and the industrial island of Thilafushi into one unit will bring revolutionary progress to the economy of the greater Malé area. The costs of exchanging goods and services will decrease, new doors will open for businesses, and this bridge will become a major force for the economic and social development of this region.
