The Villimalé to Gulhifalhu segment of the Thilamale Bridge project has been completed, marking another significant milestone in the ambitious infrastructure initiative. Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Urban Development Dr. Abdulla Muththalib announced the achievement on social media, congratulating the ministry team and AFCONS, the project's contractor, for their efforts. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its support. The newly connected segment is approximately 750 meters long. The bridge connecting Malé to Villimalé was completed last August, spanning 2.2 kilometers. More than 80% of the entire Thilamale Bridge project work is now complete, with most of the 1,222 bridge deck segments already cast at the site in Gulhifalhu. The project also includes a 2.5-kilometer highway connecting to Thilafushi, a 600-meter bridge from Gulhifalhu to Thilafushi, and a total of 6.7 kilometers of bridges and highways. The government aims to complete all bridge work by the end of next year. The $500 million project is being implemented through India's Line of Credit and funded by the Maldivian government.
