Three Arrested in Dhuvaafaru Drug Trafficking Attempt by Sea

Three individuals have been arrested for attempting to traffic drugs into R. Dhuvaafaru. The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday during a counter-drug operation conducted by the Dhuvaafaru Police in collaboration with Narcotics Intelligence. The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdulla Hassaan, 39, from R. Maakurathu; Abdulla Shaif, 25, from R. Dhuvaafaru; and Ismail Mohamed, 21, also from R. Dhuvaafaru. According to police reports, two of the suspects were caught while attempting to swim to Dhuvaafaru from a speedboat docked outside the island’s beach, which was used to transport drugs from N. Velidhoo. One suspect allegedly tried to flee upon spotting police officers. The third suspect was arrested on the streets of Dhuvaafaru. Abdulla Hassaan has been remanded in custody for five days following a court hearing, while the other two suspects have been remanded for 30 days. The case remains under investigation as part of a broader effort to combat drug-related crimes. The Police have launched 'Operation Riveli' to reduce such incidents during the new year.
