The Township Project in Noonu Atoll, valued at $790 million, has been awarded under the oversight of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), according to Ahmed Mauroof, the Legal Director of MDP. Mauroof clarified that the project was not initiated by the current government but was awarded under MDP's administration. He emphasized that the project had been invested in previously and was not a new initiative by the current administration. Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed also highlighted that the Sustainable Township Initiative was designed to align with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's economic vision. Mauroof further explained that the project, which includes the development of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), was initiated in 2022 and has been progressing under the current government's supervision. He dismissed claims that the project was a new investment by the current administration, stating that it was part of broader economic development plans initiated earlier.
