A special tree planting event was held today in Kulhudhuffushi City under the government's Five Million Tree Planting Programme. The event was organised in collaboration between the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, the Dhivehi Raajjye Qaumi University (MNU) Kulhudhuffushi Campus, and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology. Participants included the Deputy Mayor of the city and city councillors, who took part in the practical work of planting trees. The Five Million Tree Planting Programme, the largest national programme launched under a presidential promise by Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, aims to protect the country's environment. Officially inaugurated on June 5, 2024, in connection with Environment Day, the programme targets planting five million trees nationwide within five years. So far, over 2.4 million trees have been planted across the country, with councils, schools, private entities, resorts, and various institutions participating in the ongoing activities.
