Trump Announces Gaza Board of Peace Leadership List Expected Early Next Year
International ·
US President Donald Trump has revealed that an announcement regarding the members of the Gaza Board of Peace will be made early next year. Speaking to reporters during an economic event in the White House Roosevelt Room, Trump stated that several world leaders have expressed interest in joining the board, which was established as part of the US-brokered Gaza plan aimed at securing a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. He described the board as 'one of the most legendary boards ever,' with heads of major countries eager to participate.
Meanwhile, Hamas has indicated openness to a weapons 'freeze' but has rejected full disarmament, a key demand of the plan. Senior Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal emphasized that total disarmament is unacceptable, though the idea of storing weapons to prevent military escalations is under discussion with mediators. The ceasefire, in effect since October 10, 2023, has halted significant violence, though Israel has repeatedly violated the agreement.
The Gaza Board of Peace aims to oversee the ongoing truce and ensure long-term stability in the region. Its formation marks a critical step in addressing the decades-long conflict between Israel and Palestine.
