Two Malé parking buildings can be completed before November next year: Saeed

Transport Minister Mohamed Saeed said today that work on two parking buildings being built in Malé to address the capital's parking problem can be completed before November next year. Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office this morning, Saeed said the President has decided to build a dedicated building for the purpose in the Heenaamaagey parking zone, and that work is now proceeding with the contractor on the final drawings for that building. Saeed said the other dedicated parking building will be built on vacant land adjacent to the National University's Business School. Vehicles are already being parked and kept on that land, he noted. "Then, yesterday, we have brought that work almost to the final stage, and we are waiting, not many days before it is handed over to the contractor, and the target for both these buildings is also to complete these places before November next year," Saeed said. According to him, once work on the two buildings is completed and the places begin to be used, solutions to the parking problem that did not exist before will be achieved. The President has said that two dedicated buildings will be started in Malé this year to solve the parking problem facing the capital. Speaking on the government podcast "The Pulse" in mid-July this year, the President said the delay in starting construction of the parking buildings was to find a way to carry the work forward with foreign assistance. However, instead of delaying further, he said it has now been decided to start work on at least two buildings within this year.
