The United States Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has donated 150 drug testing kits to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), aiming to intensify the country's crackdown on illicit narcotics. The equipment was officially handed over during a ceremony at the Iskandharu Building, where Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed accepted the donation. The handover was facilitated by Enrico Boninsegna and Mihyar Al Nifeidi of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), representing the interests of the US Department of State. Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed highlighted that the new kits will be deployed to frontline officers, allowing them to process narcotics cases with greater speed and precision. This immediate capability is expected to streamline criminal investigations and significantly enhance the overall efficiency of anti-drug operations across the archipelago. According to the Maldives Police Service, the donated kits are engineered to provide fast and reliable results. By enabling the rapid identification of a wide range of illicit substances, the technology will reduce the time between the seizure of narcotics and the formalization of investigative reports. During the ceremony, which was attended by senior MPS officers and UNODC officials, the Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the US Department of State and the UNODC for their ongoing partnership and support in combating the drug menace in the Maldives.
