The Criminal Court has decided today to schedule the verdict in the case filed by the state against former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom over the leasing of R. Fuggiri, in connection with charges of bribery and money laundering, for the 29th of this month. At the hearing held at the Criminal Court today, the defense lawyers delivered their closing statement, and after the submissions were concluded, the judge hearing the case, Gazi Ali Nadeem, announced that all stages of the trial had been completed. At yesterday's hearing, the state had delivered its closing statement. The charges of accepting a bribe and money laundering were filed against President Yameen in connection with the transaction in which Fuggiri was leased without a bid from MMPRC. This is a case in which six parties were accused. However, the state has withdrawn the charges against the other parties included in the case. The state has alleged that the transaction in which Fuggiri was leased without a bid to Dubai's Classic City Island Holdings for 1.55 million dollars was carried out with the aim of obtaining money for Yameen. The state has also said it was a scheme arranged to place a low value on the property for the state and for the remaining money to go to the party and to Yameen.
