Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated the government is committed to meeting the public’s essential needs despite economic pressures linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He delivered this assurance during a ceremony marking the start of the Fares Maathoda land reclamation and harbour development project in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
In his address, the Vice President credited the administration's development initiatives to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's foresight. He outlined significant government efforts to manage state finances, which include repaying loans taken by previous administrations and raising funds from multiple sources.
Despite the economic downturn, the Vice President emphasized the government's dual focus. It will continue to safeguard the basic rights and essential needs of the people while simultaneously advancing critical infrastructural development projects across the nation's islands. The Fares Maathoda project itself represents a direct investment in local infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity and economic opportunity for the community.
