Sports ·
Norway's Viking prevented Bundesliga champions and six-time tournament winners Bayern Munich from winning in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, with the match at Viking's Lyse Arena ending 3-3.
In a match that saw competitive play from both teams, Bayern had greater possession and created many chances, but were unable to take the lead over Viking. It was Viking who gave the match an exciting start, scoring in the second minute to take the lead and stun Bayern. The goal was successfully converted from a corner by Gianni Stensness.
Although it seemed that the next goal would come from Bayern, it was Viking who scored again, taking a two-goal lead. This goal was scored in the 38th minute by Peter Christiansen.
After recovering from the shock suffered in the first half, Bayern came out for the second half with determination and the hope of escaping the embarrassment of losing at Viking's hands. In the 54th minute, Harry Kane narrowed the gap from a penalty awarded to Bayern. Six minutes after this goal, Kane scored his second to level the match. With these two goals, Kane has now scored 36 goals in the 40 Champions League matches he has played since turning 30.
Bayern's third goal, which gave the team the lead for the first time in the match, came in the 71st minute from a goal successfully scored by Luis Díaz. However, two minutes after this goal had put Bayern ahead, a second yellow card and a red card were shown to Michael Olise, and the tide of the match again turned in Viking's favour.
After the red card shown to Olise, Viking were the side who played well. The result was that substitute Haman Haugen scored in the 90th minute to level the score.
After the match, Viking captain Zlatko Tripic said that he could have played another 90 minutes and that he was very happy and proud of the result obtained from the match. He also said that taking a two-goal lead against Bayern, who are made up of the world's best players, is not an ordinary thing, and that what was seen from all of Viking's players in this match was very good and extremely courageous football.
This is the first time Viking are competing in this competition since the 1992-1993 season. In the Norwegian league, Viking are joint first in the table with Bodø/Glimt, who in the last season produced many results that surprised many people in this competition.
With the match ending level, Bayern are fourth in the table with 4 points from 2 matches. Viking are 26th in the table with the first point obtained this season.
