Health ·
Maldives' Villimale' Hospital has been temporarily relocated to the Amaan Hiyaa building in Villimale' from today, as preparations begin for the construction of a new hospital. The Amaan Hiyaa building is the facility commonly known as the Children's Home in Villimale'.
A new 112-bed hospital is planned for the site where the current Villimale' Hospital operates, with assistance from the Chinese government. An official from the Malé City Group of Hospitals told local media that most of the services currently available at Villimale' Hospital will continue to be available from the Amaan Hiyaa building.
CEO of Malé City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdhul Razzaq Haleem, said the relocation would be carried out in phases to avoid inconvenience to the public. In the first phase, emergency services, doctor consultation services, and vaccination services are expected to be shifted.
The new hospital is being built with a grant from the Chinese government. The design agreement for the project was signed between the two countries in June last year.
Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muthalib had earlier said that actual construction of the hospital would begin in the middle of this year and would be fully completed within the next two years. He said that by the time the work is completed, Villimale' residents would have access to all modern health facilities from the new hospital.
