Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has officially partnered with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to serve as the aviation partner for the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026. The collaboration aims to elevate the Maldives' global profile and ensure a seamless experience for international visitors during one of the travel industry's most prestigious events.
The partnership agreement was signed by Aishath Shirany Nasir, Manager of Business Development at VMC, and Nashaya Abdul Wahid, General Manager of Air Service Development at MACL. Under the terms of the agreement, MACL will utilize Velana International Airport—the country's main gateway—to provide extensive branding and promotional visibility in support of the awards.
Nashaya Abdul Wahid expressed MACL's commitment to creating a memorable arrival experience for visitors, noting that the partnership reflects a shared goal of strengthening the Maldives' international presence. By integrating promotional efforts within the airport, MACL intends to showcase the destination's hospitality and infrastructure to a global audience of tourism professionals and travelers.
The World Travel Awards is widely regarded as the 'Oscars' of the tourism industry, celebrating excellence across destinations, hospitality brands, and tourism organizations. Hosting the 2026 ceremony for the Asia, Oceania, and Indian Ocean regions provides the Maldives with a strategic platform to network with international stakeholders and reinforce its status as a premier global destination.
For Visit Maldives Corporation, this partnership is part of a broader strategy to attract major international events to the archipelago. By leveraging the infrastructure of Velana International Airport, VMC aims to enhance industry connections and drive sustainable growth in the tourism sector, ensuring the Maldives remains competitive and visible in an evolving global market.
