Visit Maldives and Qatar Airways Partner to Expand Global Tourism Reach
World ·
Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) and Qatar Airways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to intensify the joint promotion of the Maldives across key international tourism markets. The agreement, signed during the Arabian Travel Market 2026, aims to leverage Qatar Airways' expansive global network to attract a broader demographic of travelers.
The partnership was formalized by VMC CEO and Managing Director Abdulla Yasir and Qatar Airways Vice President for Africa and Global Leisure Sales Hendrik Abraham Du Preez. This strategic alliance coincides with Qatar Airways' plan to increase flight capacity to the Maldives starting next month, significantly enhancing connectivity between the archipelago and the airline's six-continent network.
Under the terms of the agreement, both entities will collaborate on destination marketing, travel trade engagement, and familiarization programs. These initiatives are designed to maintain the Maldives' visibility in established markets while aggressively pursuing emerging tourism hubs.
"Partnerships with international airlines allow us to take the Maldives directly into the markets and networks where travel decisions are being made," stated Abdulla Yasir. He emphasized that the cooperation would strengthen ties with the travel trade, reach new audiences, and create sustainable opportunities for tourism growth.
The signing ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including State Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Dr. Abdulla Niyaz, VMC Chairman Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, Maldives Embassy in the UAE Minister Counsellor Ahmed Farih Mohamed, and VMC Chief Operating Officer Sabeeha Ahmed.
This collaboration is a cornerstone of VMC’s broader strategic objective to diversify tourism demand. By linking destination promotion directly with international travel networks and airline partners, the Maldives seeks to reduce reliance on traditional markets and ensure a steady stream of diverse international arrivals.
