Visit Maldives Partners with Gold Medal to Boost British Tourism Arrivals
World ·
Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has partnered with leading UK tour operator Gold Medal to launch a strategic marketing campaign aimed at increasing visitor arrivals from the United Kingdom. The initiative seeks to solidify the Maldives' position as a top-tier holiday destination for British travelers through direct engagement with retail travel networks and agents.
The campaign, which runs until July 31, is structured in two distinct phases. The first phase focuses on broad commercial visibility within the Indian Ocean travel market. This includes high-profile advertisements in major UK retail outlets and features in prominent travel publications to capture the attention of general leisure travelers.
To ensure a comprehensive digital reach, VMC is deploying dedicated landing pages, targeted email campaigns, and social media promotions reaching over 1,000 travel agents. Additionally, call center staff are undergoing specialized training to provide prospective tourists with detailed and accurate information about the archipelago's offerings.
The second phase pivots toward the luxury sector, focusing on long-term growth and high-value tourism. VMC will distribute luxury-focused promotional brochures to high-end UK travel agencies for one year and launch a dedicated website showcasing exclusive, upscale travel experiences. To drive immediate results, a reward program has also been introduced to incentivize travel agents to secure more bookings for the destination.
The United Kingdom remains a critical pillar of the Maldivian tourism industry, currently ranking as the third-largest source market for visitors. The importance of this market is underscored by recent data, with more than 83,000 British tourists visiting the Maldives so far this year.
VMC expressed confidence that this multifaceted approach—combining mass-market visibility with luxury targeting—will significantly enhance the destination's presence in the UK and lead to a measurable surge in arrivals in the coming months.
