Visit Maldives Year 2027 Campaign Launched to Boost Inclusive Tourism Growth
World ·
The Maldives has officially launched the 'Visit Maldives Year 2027' campaign, a national initiative designed to elevate the tourism sector and broaden the industry's reach across the archipelago. The campaign was formally unveiled during National Tourism Day celebrations by the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, and the Chairperson of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), Hussain Afeef.
First announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his presidential address to the Majlis (the Maldivian Parliament), the initiative aims to create a more inclusive tourism ecosystem. The launch ceremony saw the debut of the campaign's official logo, branding, and a dedicated theme song, setting the visual and emotional tone for the upcoming promotional push.
Minister Ameen emphasized that the 2027 campaign is not limited to the luxury resort sector. Instead, it is designed to integrate a wide array of stakeholders, ensuring that local islands, guesthouses, and smaller tourism operators are actively involved in attracting and hosting international visitors. This approach reflects a strategic shift toward diversifying the Maldivian tourism product beyond the traditional 'one island, one resort' model.
Complementing the campaign launch, the government announced new categories for the Maldives Tourism Awards 2027. Since its inception in 2022, the awards have recognized excellence among resorts, hotels, and safari vessels. The expanded criteria for 2027 will now include categories for sustainability, visitor experience, human resource development, and outstanding individuals.
In a significant move to empower local communities, some of these new award categories are open to island councils, acknowledging the critical role of local governance in managing community-based tourism. This integration ensures that the drive toward 2027 benefits both the high-end hospitality sector and the residents of the inhabited islands. Applications for the expanded awards are scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027.
