Voting for the election to select members to be appointed by councils to the board of the Local Government Authority (LGA) commenced today. The election, which started at 10 am and will continue until 4 pm, aims to elect a member to the LGA Board from among island councilors and a member from among chairpersons of committees working for women's development. Polling booths have been set up in 19 atolls, including Malé, where the booth is located at the LGA. A total of 807 entities are eligible to vote, comprising 625 councilors and 182 chairpersons of women's development committees. Malé City Mayor Mohamed Athif, the sole candidate for the position to be elected from city councils, has been elected without a vote.
