WAMCO has clarified the delay in reporting the murder of Amin Mia, a 24-year-old woman whose body was discovered on January 26. According to WAMCO, the delay was due to adherence to legal protocols governing information gathering and investigation procedures. Amin Mia’s body was found submerged in the sea near Hulhumalé, and WAMCO explained that no details could be shared until sufficient information was obtained. The organization emphasized that this case, currently handled by the Maldives Police Service, required confidentiality to ensure a thorough investigation without public interference. WAMCO also confirmed that Sri Lankan national Hashan Maduranga Disanayake, 32, who was operating the crane involved in the incident, has been arrested and charged in connection with the case. Disanayake denies the charges, and investigations continue.
