WAMCO Declines to Take Action Against Manager Arrested in Rape Case
Local News ·
The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has stated it will not take any disciplinary action against a manager arrested in connection with the Huvadhu rape case unless he is proven guilty by an investigative authority.
Ali Huzam Saeed, a manager at WAMCO's Thinadhoo City operation, is among nine people arrested over the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman and the sexual assault of children in Huvadhu Atoll. Huzam and another suspect, Mohamed Salih Ahmed, have been remanded for 90 days by the court.
In a press release, WAMCO said it would apply the strictest measures under its regulations against an employee only if an investigative authority determines guilt. The company assured the public that it would not hesitate to take action if the allegations are proven.
The corporation added that maintaining high ethical standards among its employees, both in and out of the workplace, is a fundamental objective of its HR policy.
However, the public has expressed concern over WAMCO's decision to wait, with many questioning why the corporation has not suspended the employee facing such serious allegations while the criminal investigation is ongoing.
