Women Aged 25-34 Now Lead Tourist Arrivals in the Maldives
World ·
Female travelers aged 25 to 34 have emerged as the most prominent demographic visiting the Maldives this year, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Out of 1.3 million total arrivals recorded so far this year, women in the 25-34 age bracket account for 14 percent of all visitors. The trend of female dominance extends across nearly every age group, with the exception of travelers aged 65 and older. Women aged 35 to 44 represent the second-largest segment at 11.8 percent, while female children under 14 form the third-largest group.
Among male visitors, the most significant presence is also found within the 25-34 age range. These figures highlight a shifting demographic trend toward younger female travelers seeking the archipelago's luxury and leisure offerings.
In terms of nationality, China and Russia remain the primary source markets for the Maldives. Both nations have contributed over 200,000 arrivals each this year, while the United Kingdom maintains its position as the third-largest market with more than 100,000 visitors.
Overall tourist numbers show a slight dip compared to the previous year. The 1.3 million arrivals recorded currently are approximately 3 percent lower than the 1.4 million tourists who visited during the same period last year.
Despite the annual decline, recent figures indicate a recovery in momentum. More than 100,000 tourists arrived during the first part of this month, marking a 2.6 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in August of last year. This uptick suggests a strengthening trend in arrivals as the season progresses.
