Work begins to replace turf at FAM Turf Ground 1 in Maafannu

The government has begun the practical work to replace the turf at the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Turf Ground 1 in Maafannu, Male', one of the most used football grounds for training and matches in the capital. The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been contracted to carry out the work, with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Health providing all required new turf and materials. The project is expected to be completed within 20 days from the start date, after which the ground will be usable again. The turf at FAM Turf Ground 1 was last replaced in 2014, and due to more than 10 years of use without replacement, the ground's condition had severely deteriorated. This had led to an increased risk of injury for national teams, clubs, and general players training on the pitch, causing significant difficulties. Once the ongoing work is finished, players and various academies in Male' will receive a suitable, high-quality ground.
