Yameen: Police Must Act on Illegal Land Handovers Without Waiting for ACC
Politics ·
Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that it is the legal responsibility of the police to examine and stop the handover of land and property in violation of procedures and laws. Speaking at a session held by the People's National Front (PNF), he strongly criticized the 99-year agreement to hand over Rasmalé land to Dubai's Eagle Hills, as well as various government transactions. Yameen said that under the Police Act, the police have the authority to investigate corruption cases and do not need to wait for instructions from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) or for someone to file a case. He warned that if lands are sold off to foreign entities like Eagle Hills, the country's sovereignty will be lost. Yameen also criticized the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), describing it as a party with no credibility that has been proven not to wish well for the country through its two terms in power.
