Local News ·
The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert from Kaafu Atoll to Meemu Atoll, warning of heavy rain and strong winds over the next 24 hours.
In a post on X, the weather authority said the alert would be in effect from 5:45 pm to 9:30 pm, with winds of up to 45 miles per hour and rough seas expected in the area.
The service said rain, heavy in some places, was expected across various parts of the Maldives over the next 24 hours. It also warned that seas around the northern and central atolls would become rough and windy over the next two days.
According to the service, an update on Wednesday night said the west monsoon had strengthened, and cloud clusters over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal were bringing heavy rain clouds over the atolls from the west.
The Maldives Meteorological Service urged the public, especially those travelling by sea, to pay attention to the weather and stay updated on the latest information.
