The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts has confirmed that 541 young Maldivians have successfully completed government-sponsored training programmes over the last two years. This initiative is a key part of the government's strategy to expand economic opportunities and increase youth participation in the national workforce.
The programmes, which include the Apprenticeship and Community Upskilling tracks, were designed to provide practical skills and foster self-reliance. Ministry statistics reveal that 382 men and 159 women make up the graduating cohort. Specifically, 255 individuals completed the Apprenticeship Programme, while 286 graduated from the Community Upskilling course. An additional 172 students are currently enrolled in both programmes, continuing their skills development.
Officials emphasized that these efforts align with the ministry's core mandate to enhance youth engagement in the labour market and reduce dependency on foreign workers. By cultivating a skilled, confident, and self-sufficient domestic workforce, the government aims to ensure young citizens can build sustainable livelihoods through professional integrity and dedicated work.
