World ·
The Maldives Zakat House has distributed a record-breaking USD 357 per person as part of this year’s Zakat al-Mal, marking the highest individual payout in the program's history. A total of USD 850,200 was disbursed to 2,384 individuals. These beneficiaries were identified through the national registry of the poor and needy as of 1st Dhu al-Hijjah 1447. This year's allocation represents a significant increase over the 2025 distribution, where beneficiaries received USD 324 per person. The Zakat House confirmed that this upward trend reflects a growing capacity to provide more substantial financial support to the most vulnerable members of society. Zakat al-Mal, a mandatory form of almsgiving in Islam based on a percentage of an individual's accumulated wealth, serves as a critical social safety net in the Maldives. By distributing these funds, the Zakat House aims to alleviate poverty and provide immediate financial relief to registered households across the archipelago. The increase in the per-person amount highlights a rise in total Zakat collections and a commitment to enhancing the impact of these contributions on the lives of the needy. This record distribution ensures that registered individuals receive greater support to meet their basic needs and improve their quality of life.
