Zakat House Distributes Record USD 357 Per Person to Maldivian Poor

The Maldives Zakat House has distributed a record-breaking USD 357 per person as part of this year’s Zakat al-Mal, marking the highest individual payout in the program's history. A total of USD 850,200 was disbursed to 2,384 individuals. These beneficiaries were identified through the national registry of the poor and needy as of 1st Dhu al-Hijjah 1447. This year's allocation represents a significant increase over the 2025 distribution, where beneficiaries received USD 324 per person. The Zakat House confirmed that this upward trend reflects a growing capacity to provide more substantial financial support to the most vulnerable members of society. Zakat al-Mal, a mandatory form of almsgiving in Islam based on a percentage of an individual's accumulated wealth, serves as a critical social safety net in the Maldives. By distributing these funds, the Zakat House aims to alleviate poverty and provide immediate financial relief to registered households across the archipelago.
