Politics ·
Maldives Zakat House has announced the opening of applications for higher education scholarships, offering Maldivian students the opportunity to pursue advanced degrees both within the Maldives and at international institutions.
The program provides 30 scholarships in total, with 10 slots dedicated to local studies and 20 for those seeking education overseas. The initiative specifically targets advanced academic achievement, offering nine opportunities for Master’s programs and 10 for PhD studies.
Eligible fields of study primarily focus on Islamic disciplines, including Islamic Shariah, Qur’anic Sciences, Islamic Education, Islamic Research and Publications, and Islamic Journalism. Other priority areas include Aqeedah, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and Islamic Leadership and Management. However, the Zakat House noted that applicants may propose alternative fields of study, provided the program demonstrates a meaningful contribution to the development of Islamic society in the Maldives.
Beyond the general scholarships, the organization has introduced targeted special schemes. These include five stipend-based opportunities for students currently enrolled in universities in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Additionally, five special scholarships have been created specifically to train female doctors in specialized areas of women’s health, bridging a critical gap in local healthcare expertise.
Interested candidates must submit their applications via email to the Zakat House. The deadline for submissions is July 16, 2026, at 14:00 hours.
This initiative reflects a broader effort to enhance the academic capacity of Maldivians in specialized religious and professional fields, ensuring that the country possesses a highly qualified workforce to guide and serve the community.
